-Many more updates to report. On the awards front, Famous 4A won the audience award at the Red Hook Film Festival in Brooklyn, NY. It also got an honorable mention at the Northwest Film Forum’s Local Sightings Film Festival and won the documentary prize at the 2010 CILECT Congress.
With the latter I got an all-expenses paid trip to Barcelona, which I had to turn down since I was already attending the Livestrong Young Adult Alliance conference in Austin, TX. There we screened our short film on cancer treatments and fertility. It was a fascinating event, both in learning about the challenges faces this group (cancer patients ages 15-39) and seeing all the positive work being done to help them. Austin seems pretty nice too!

-Famous 4A took the Jury Award for best short at the Kos Ippokratis International Health Film Festival! There are some pictures and a statement from the jury on my film here. The festival was great, for seeing films, meeting the filmmakers and receiving the Greek people’s hospitality. Sarah and I have never encountered such generosity and kindness. It was also fantastic to see a wide and diverse interest in documentaries about human health. I hope to return there again in some shape or form.
Here is a picture of me getting the award, trying to think of something insightful to say:
And here are some random pictures from our trip:
updates
August, 2010 - Many updates to report:
- Famous 4A is in the shorts competition at the Kos Ippokratis International Health Film Festival on the island of Kos in Greece. My wife Sarah and I will be attending and exploring the Greek Islands afterward. If you happen to be passing through the Dodecanese next week (you never know) please do check it out.
I was interviewed by a Greek film blogger about the film and the festival here.
- Mr. Mack’s Kitchen has found a second life in the children’s film festival circuit. After winning the “Best of the Northwest Award” at Children’s Film Festival Seattle, it went on to play at the San Francisco International Film Festival and a few others.
- Earlier this spring I completed an educational documentary for Seattle Children’s Hospital, the University of Washington and the Seattle Cancer Care Alliance on fertility and chemotherapy. The film will be shown to recently diagnosed cancer patients to educate them about chemotherapy’s effect on their fertility and their options.
Soon I will be updating this site with samples of my commercial and commissioned work. you wish to see the film please email me.
November, 2009 - Famous 4A is a nominee for the International Documentary Association’s David Wolper Award! For the full list of nominees, click here. (and note the other Stanford films.)
I did not win, but Peter Jordan’s The First Kid to Learn English from Mexico did, and deserved it! The event was loads of fun. How often does one get to pose for red carpet pictures:

September 2010 - animation diversion
A stop-motion animation I did for a class at Stanford, “The Nightmare before Breakfast” is now in The Klutz Book of Animation, a how-to book on all types of animation for children ages 8 & up:
October, 2009 - I got my MFA from Stanford and now live in Seattle(?!)
My wife, Sarah, just started a grad program at UW, so we’ve relocated. I have some commercial work in the area and hope to get another project or two off the ground to start shooting in the spring.
In other news:
-My thesis film, Famous 4A, was a semi-finalist in the Angelus Awards, but sadly did not make the final round. A site for the film will posted shortly.
-Mr. Mack’s Kitchen just played at the Red Hook Film Festival.

March 31, 2009 - Some news on the festival front:

-Been quite busy doing some production work for Seattle Children’s and Etsy.com. My short documentary for the latter - about photographer Molly Landreth - will post later this month. For Seattle Children’s I’ve been working on some fundraising pieces and a series of shorts called “I Am Seattle Children’s”. Here is one about an ice cream social in Seattle Children’s cancer unit:
